You inherit Mount Holly from an eccentric great-uncle. The will stipulates that the estate is yours only if you find Room 46. The manor has forty-five rooms. Every morning the floor plan resets, and every door you open presents a draft of three rooms — you choose which one is on the other side. You have a finite number of steps. Then the day ends and the house forgets.
The roguelike drafting is the surface. Underneath it is a genuine, hand-authored mystery that does not reset — the house forgets, but the notes you take do not, and neither do you. Blue Prince is one of very few games where the actual progression system is your own understanding. There is no upgrade that unlocks the thing you're stuck on. You were always able to do it. You just didn't know yet.
The Society's assessment: this is the closest a video game has come to modelling what an armchair treasure hunt actually feels like — reading a document too closely, building a theory on one word, walking it, and being wrong in an instructive way. The Cobalt DNF and a bad afternoon in the Mount Holly basement are the same experience.
