Eight episodes, 1930s New York, Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly — a private investigator well past his best years who used to be, and to his considerable irritation still is, the Spider.

The production ships in two grades: Authentic Black and White and True-Hue Full Color. The Society has tested both and holds that this is not a preference question. The lighting is built for monochrome — the venetian-blind slats, the wet asphalt, the single hard key on Cage's face in an otherwise black room only resolve when the colour information is gone. In colour it reads as a period drama with unusually aggressive shadows. In black and white it reads as the thing it is imitating.

Cage plays it down, which is the surprise. This is not a big Cage performance. It is a tired one, deliberately, and the register suits a man who has been doing this too long and knows it.

Adjacent Society business. This is exactly the shelf Nattlotor was invented for — the rain-slicked coat, the cigarette, the cache log held like evidence. We have not yet stamped anything with the Nattlotor variant because it does not exist as a die. This is being addressed.
